If you enjoy bbq chicken and beer can chicken, combine the two in this easy crockpot bbq beer can chicken recipe! With a delicious bbq dry rub, you’ll love this tender, juicy slow cooker dinner meal!
If you prefer to brine your chicken first, feel free to do so. However, brining isn’t necessary as this was definitely juicy and flavorful without it! The broiler step is crucial though (to crisp up the outside), so don’t skip that part!

Crockpot BBQ Beer Can Chicken: Whole Chicken In Crockpot | Slow Cooker Recipes
- ¼ Cup Dark Brown Sugar
- ¼ Cup Paprika
- ¼ Cup Kosher Salt
- ¼ Cup Black Pepper
- ¼ Cup Garlic Powder
- ¼ Cup Ground Thyme
- 2 TBSP Onion Powder
- 2 TBSP Cayenne Pepper
- 1 14.9 OZ Can Guinness Stout Beer
- 4 LB Whole Chicken
- Four balls aluminum foil
- Combine rub ingredients
- Place aluminum foil balls in the bottom of slow cooker
- Apply rub to chicken
- Pour beer into slow cooker
- Place chicken on top of foil balls
- Cook for 5 hours on low
- Add BBQ Sauce, gently brush onto chicken
- Transfer to oven safe pan
- Broil on high 2 - 5 minutes to crisp up skin
- Let rest for a couple minutes
- Side and serve with your favorite BBQ sides
